Economy Getting Stabilized, Claims Prime Minister Gilani

Prime Minister Gilani has claimed that the state economy is getting stable, which has resulted into return of the investors' trust.

The PM stated these views during the Economic Coordination Council (ECC) meeting, which was held in Islamabad today.

Sources said the meeting deliberated upon the imposition of regularity duty on chemical products, Port Qasim Navigation Channel's extension and establishment of polythene plant. It is the first ECC meeting after the resignation of former finance minister Shaukat Tarin.

Addressing the meeting, the PM said that the implementation of the cabinet decision would be ensured, adding that all the decisions would be taken in country's larger interests. He assured that significant uplift goals would be achieved within two years, adding that the reserves are at satisfactory level.

Tenure Of DG ISI Extended For One Year

Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani on Tuesday extended service of Director General Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), Lieutenant General Shuja Pasha, for one year. Summary in this regard was sent to the Prime Minister 15 days ago which was accepted.

He had informed the viewers about his extension one month ago. Pasha was scheduled to retire from service on March 18, 2010.

SC directs police to close down torture cells

Supreme Court has adjourned the police torture case for 3 weeks.
During the case hearing, Justice Sair Ali said that the situation could be rectified if the cops who resorted to brutality be subjected to the same kind of torture. However, the IG Police said that the police morale has shrunk, and added that it has been hard for cops to get out of their homes in uniforms. The court ordered the Punjab government to submit report about police brutality within 3 weeks, and directed all the SPs to close down all the torture centers in their respective areas. Justice Javed Iqbal observed that in future IG would be held accountable, if any torture incident comes on surface. Advocate General Punjab Khawaja Haris said that police laws are being amended, which would certainly improve the situation.
     The IG Police claimed that the media is overplaying the issue, while Justice Sair said that anarchy is being created by the police and not media.

Lasbela: Blast Claims 4 Lives

At least four people were killed while several others have been injured in an explosion in city of Lasbela. The explosion occurred near a hotel in the Hub area of Sakran Road. The law enforcement agencies and rescue workers have reached on the spot.

According to sources, the explosive device is believed to be detonated with the help of a remote control.
