13 militants killed in jet planes bombing in Orakzai

At least 13 militants were killed and 12 others got injured in the bombing of jet planes in different areas of Orakzai Agency. Five captives were also killed in the bombing.

According to security sources, jet planes targeted an important hideouts of militants in Arganju, Tor and Mandati in which 7 hideouts were destroyed. After the bombing, militants sealed the area.

Plane Crash: Day Of National Mourning Being Observed Today

Pakistan News: Pakistan is observing a day of national mourning today following the country’s worst-ever air disaster in Islamabad and the national flag will also not be hoisted today.

At least 152 passengers including crew members have been killed after a private airliner Airblue domestic flight ED-202 crashed into the Margalla hills on Wednesday. The rescue teams have managed to recover 139 dead bodies from the wreckage so far. The plane was carrying 146 passengers and 6 crew members including Captain Pervaiz Iqbal Chaudhry and first officer Mujjadidin. All the rescue and relief agencies, including Rescue 1122, ERC an Army Aviation participated in the initial search and rescue operation but due to the difficult terrain, it was quite challenging for the rescue teams to reach the site of wreckage. Fifty two dead bodies have been identified so far and handed over to their relatives. The DNA tests of the unidentified bodies will be done today so that their relatives can take the bodies back to homes. The black box of this unfortunate plane has not yet been found and a 5 member investigation team has also been formed. The MD of PIA claims that this incident took place due to the negligence of the pilot.

Karachi: Two Children Die As Wall Collapses

Karachi, Pakistan News: A wall of a house collapsed in Karachi due to which two children got killed.

In the area of De Silva Town, North Nazimabad, Karachi, a wall of a house collapsed unexpectedly due to which 8 year old Ramsha and 10 year old Yaqub were killed. The dead bodies of these children were then shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. According to the doctors both the children died due to a head injury. Police have entered an initial report of the incident.

World Bank Aid To Pak Raised To One Billion Dollars

Pakistan News: The World Bank raises its emergency funding to Pak to one Billion dollars on Wednesday to help cope with the massive economic impact of catastrophic monsoon flooding.

The raise, an additional 100 million dollars on top of an existing 900 million dollar loan, was announced by World Bank chief Robert Zoellick as he met Pakistan Finance Minister Hafeez Shaikh in Washington.

Zoellick in a statement said the money was for “immediate recovery needs and longer-term reconstruction.” “We need to respond strongly to the crisis at hand, but we need to do it without losing sight of important economic reforms,” he said. “This disaster underscores Pakistan’s fiscal vulnerability and dependence on foreign aid.”

Zoellick and Shaikh discussed plans for institutional and governance reforms in Pakistan in the wake of a disaster which has crippled the country’s economy.

The World Bank pledged to help Pakistan set up systems for tracking aid flows, and monitoring and evaluating the whole process to tackle waste and corruption.

Badar Hopes Taseer To show Restraint on Judges’ Appointment

LAHORE: The secretary general of Peoples Party Senator Jahangir Badar has termed the statements of Rana Sanaullah against charter of democracy and said governor Punjab will take cautious decision on judges' appointment summary sent by Lahore High Court. Talking to media while appearing in the accountability court here, Jahangir Badar said statements of Rana Sanaullah will create atmosphere of distrust. He urged Sanaullah to consult courts instead of issuing statements to media against governor Punjab. The court has adjourned the hearing of cases of illegal assets and illegal recruitments against Badar till February 13.

Judiciary, Raise in Police Salaries Failed To Produce results: CM

LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said the subordinate judiciary and raise in salaries of police personnel have been so far fell flat in producing the desired results, Geo news reported.

Addressing the conference organized by Investment and Trade Commission, he said the disturbed law and order situation in country would ultimately distract investors from country, he worried.

Government would fail to bring investors round to invest in Pakistan in case judiciary failed to hand in poor people justice and if police could not be able to enact maintenance of law and order situation in here, he warned.

Turkey, China and Iran increased export while we could only manage to pile up population, he mocked.

US Scanning Defied: FATA Delegation Returns

A six-member delegation of the National Assembly and Senate returned to Pakistan in protest after refusing a body scan at the Dulles International Airport, Washington.

Talking to the media persons at the Benazir Airport, head of the delegation Senator Abbas Khan Afridi said they were asked for a body-scan but they refused, as they termed the law discriminatory to parliamentarians of a sovereign country. He said they were informed before their arrival in the US that they would not face any such discrimination during their visit. The delegation went to the US on February 28 for a 15-day visit.
