Pakistan News: Pakistan is observing a day of national mourning today following the country’s worst-ever air disaster in Islamabad and the national flag will also not be hoisted today.
At least 152 passengers including crew members have been killed after a private airliner Airblue domestic flight ED-202 crashed into the Margalla hills on Wednesday. The rescue teams have managed to recover 139 dead bodies from the wreckage so far. The plane was carrying 146 passengers and 6 crew members including Captain Pervaiz Iqbal Chaudhry and first officer Mujjadidin. All the rescue and relief agencies, including Rescue 1122, ERC an Army Aviation participated in the initial search and rescue operation but due to the difficult terrain, it was quite challenging for the rescue teams to reach the site of wreckage. Fifty two dead bodies have been identified so far and handed over to their relatives. The DNA tests of the unidentified bodies will be done today so that their relatives can take the bodies back to homes. The black box of this unfortunate plane has not yet been found and a 5 member investigation team has also been formed. The MD of PIA claims that this incident took place due to the negligence of the pilot.
