Junior Asia Hockey Cup begins today

 

At least nine Asian teams will take part in the 10-day event, which kicks off today. Teams from Pakistan, South Korea, Malaysia, China, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, Indonesia, Brunei and Singapore are participating in the tournament.

 

Defending champions Pakistan has been placed in Pool A and will play its first match against Brunei on June 19. The green shirts will face Indonesia in their second match on June 20. They will play their third match against Singapore on June 23 and last pool match against Kazakhstan on June 24.

 

The poll B consists of China, South Korea, Malaysia and Sri Lanka.
 

NATO air strikes leave 7 dead in Tripoli

 

According to a government spokesman, a residential locality in Arada area of Tripoli was targeted in the NATO raids.

 

Reporters were taken by Libyan government officials to the residential area destroyed during the attack.

 

Talking to reporters, Libyan deputy foreign minister Khaled Kaim said that civilians are being intentionally targeted by the NATO forces. The reporter were also witnessed a body being pulled out of the rubble of a destroyed building

 

At a local hospital, reporters were shown three bodies, including a child, which government officials said were people who had been killed in the air strike.

 

According to a reporter, Arada is known for anti-Gaddafi sentiment.

7.3-magnitude earthquake shakes Alaska

 

According to the US Geological Survey, an earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale rocked coastal area of Alaska at 6:09 am local time.

 

The US officials have issued a tsunami warning immediately in coastal town Atka and its suburbs. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

Khyber Agency:Militants Blew Up Two NATO Oil Tankers

Militants blew up two Nato oil tanker in Jamrud, Khyber Agency. Official sources said that the tanker had been completely destroyed in the explosion.

The Pak-Afghan highway has been blocked after the explosion and supply to Nato forces has also been suspended. The TTP has claimed responsibility for the attack on the Nato supply line.

Interrupted petrol supply troubles people

The petrol is being sold as high as Rs 125 per litre in various cities as the acute shortage of fuel is being observed after the halt in supply from the Attock Oil Refinery due to some technical faults.

Long queues of vehicles were seen on CNG stations following the resumption of gas supply after the weekly suspension of two days.
 

Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani ordered the Pakistan State Oil to import 50,000 tonnes extra fuel to overcome the shortage.
 

The Petroleum Ministry claimed that the scarcity would be diminished in two days.
 

Meanwhile, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority issued notice to the Attock Oil Refinery, asking them to restore their routine supplies.

Yellow Cab scheme launched again

 

In the first PML-N government, Yellow cab scheme was introduced for the unemployed youth and Rs 50 billion was borrowed from banks to run the scheme. Thousands of vehicles including luxury cars were also imported and later were exported to earn profit. More vehicles were given to political activists. The loan, which was obtained for the scheme resulted in the default of Allied Bank and Habib Bank and public money was used to save the banks.

 

Cut in customs duties also affected the economy. Local auto industry also suffered due to the imported vehicles and no investment was made in this sector during the next 5-years.
 

Hot spell continues across Pakistan

 

Hot spell continued across the country as temperature rose to 41 Celsius in Bahawalpur at 10am on Monday.

 

According to the Met Office, 40 Celsius temperature was recorded in Rahimyar Khan, 39 Celsius in Jhang, 38 Celsius in Khuzdar, Jhelum and Hyderabad, 37 Celsius in Dera Ghazi Khan, Mangla, Multan and Faisalabad, 36 Celsius in Lahore and Sahiwal, 35 Celsius in Peshawar and 34 Celsius in Karachi.
