State Bank withdraws Rs 34.5 billion from market


 


The central bank sold T-bills under a three-day repurchase agreement to withdraw additional capital from the market. Interest of 12.04 was agreed on T-bills.


 






Primary dealers had offered to buy T-bills worth Rs 40 billion. After the announcement of budget, the State Bank so far has sold T-bills worth Rs 46 billion through three open market operations.
 






Somali pirates again attempted to hijack ship


 


Talking to A PK News, social activist Ansar Burney said that a group of pirates attacked Capt Wasi’s ship at 8:00am today. However, after a two-hour exchange of fire their attempt to hijack the ship had been foiled.


 






He informed that Capt Wasi and his crew remained unharmed during the attack and the ship is heading towards safer region. He also appealed to the nation to pray for safe return of the recently-released captives.


 


According to information, four Pakistanis and 18 other people are onboard the ship. The four Pakistanis, including Capt Wasi are third engineer Sayed Alam, deisel mechanic Muzammil and a resident of Swat, Ali Rehan.

Load shedding goes up to 10 hours in Karachi


The faults in the electrical system in Karachi are not being fixed due to dispute that has been going on between the Karachi Electrical Supply Company (KESC) and its workers for about two months now. As a result, the electricity shortfall has started to increase and planned load shedding has gone up to 10 hours while the unannounced load shedding has gone beyond 14 hours.  People in Karachi are facing a consecutive outage of 4 to six hour s at night.
 










Brothers land in jail after Shampoo clash


An incident starting as an argument about shampoo ended with the arrests of two brothers for disorderly conduct.


Police responded to Sheboygan home on a report of a disturbance and found Jonathan Pippert arguing with his brother in the front lawn. Pippert, 32, and his brother, Jared Pippert, 27, both had scrapes and bruises on their upper bodies. The brothers told police they fought after Jonathan took a bottle of shampoo from Jared s room, but each brother claimed the other started the fight.






Jonathan Pippert is facing up to two years in jail due to prior convictions and Jared Pippert is facing up to 90 days.


 






11 dead 27 injured in Ormara road accident


A passenger coach, going Mand from Karachi, overturned due to over speeding near Ormara on Coastal Highway, leaving 11 people dead and 27 injured.


The rescue workers have shifted the injured to hospitals in Ormara and Karachi.






 


Former education minister Zubaida Jalal’s brother Khalid Rind is also among the dead while her sister Rahima Jalal got critically injured.
All the deceased belong to Mand.

Iran bow out of Olympic qualifiers


 


Iraq beat arch rivals Iran 2-0 in the second leg of Olympic qualifying match played at the Azadi Football Stadium, Teheran.


 


Both the goals were scored by Amjad Razi. Iran had defeated Iraq 1-0 in the first leg of qualifiers.






 


Iraq qualified to play the third round of the qualifiers on better goal difference.


 


The schedule of 12-team third round has been announced which will kick off on July 7.

PESHAWAR: 3, Police, 5, Miscreants Killed In Peshawar:Latest News Updates In a shootout between police and gunmen eight persons including three policemen were killed here.





According to reports, police on a cue conducted raid at a house in Bara Sheikhan area of Peshawar, which is adjacent to Khyber tribal region. The proclaimed offenders in the house opended fire at police killing the SHO and two other policemen. In police firing? five proclaimed offenders were killed.


Two police and a FC man were injured in fighting and admitted at Lady Reading Hospital of Peshawar.
