Pakistan Muslim League-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif has said that the appointment of the judges of superior judiciary should not be made controversial, adding that confrontation among state institutions is not in anybody's interest. Addressing the party's consultative meeting at the Punjab House on Friday, he said: "We want safety of the democratic set-up, but no compromise can be made to the country's interest." Sources quoted Mian Nawaz Sharif saying that questions being raised by the people about government's fate, loadshedding of gas and electricity and inflation in just two years prove that the government is taking the country in a wrong direction.
The former prime minister said his party will play its due role to safeguard democratic system, to ensure the supremacy of law and constitution and to curb the corruption.
The government can strengthen the democracy by implementing the Supreme Court's orders in letter and spirit, he said. Nawaz Sharif felt that implementation of the Charter of Democracy (CoD) was the only solution of all challenges facing the country.
