Cyclone ‘Phet’ Heads Towards Pakistan

Cyclone 'Phet' heads towards PakistanThe intensity of Cyclone Phet did not weaken despite smashing along coastal Oman. Rains lashing into Gawadar due to low air pressure prevailing in the region. Karachi city administration has prohibited people from going to beach to avoid loss of life during the cyclone.

Phet brought massive flooding to Muscat and whipped the capital with winds gusting above 200 km/hr (125 mph) at the height of the storm. At least three people were killed including a Bangladeshi woman during the storm. Relief activities have been badly hampered while oil and gas production has been completely halted in Oman.

According to directorate Met office the cyclone Phet is now heading towards Pakistan at wind speeds of up to 13 km/h. The intensity of the storm is expected to decrease further as it inches close to Pakistani coastal regions. Balochistan coastal areas would be the first to experience the storm. Hospitals have been put on high alert while Mari Time Security Agency have rescued 279 fishermen from deep sea along with their 59 boats.
