Zardari termed US as safety blanket: WikiLeaks


 


President Asif Ali Zardari termed America as his safety blanket and admitted the US role in the return of Benazir Bhutto to Pakistan, reveals WikiLeaks.


 


According to a cable which the US ambassador sent to Washington, the deputy secretary general of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) contacted different factions of the Pakistan Muslim League, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and even the army to get Zardari elected as a president.






 


The ambassador wrote that the PPP kept pending everything until the election of Zardari as the president.


 


In a message sent to Washington on 2008, the US ambassador wrote that Zardari termed US as his safety blanket and also talked about the US role in Benazir’s return to Pakistan.


 


Separately, WikiLeaks revealed that Law Minister Farooq A Naek wrote a document seeking exemption for Pervez Musharraf.
