Supreme Court Monday resumed hearing the case regarding the 18th Constitutional Amendment. A 17-judge larger bench is hearing the constitutional petitions filed against the 18th Amendment. During the hearing, Lawyers Forum's counsel Advocate AK Dogar argued that the judges should be appointed for life to ensure a free judiciary.
He added that free judiciary does not come under the executive as in the parliamentary system both the institutions are separate. Justice Shakirullah remarked that the constitution separated judiciary from the executive but legislative is also included in the executive but its role is not made clear.
Dogar contended that the country could not survive sans the judiciary.
