Nawaz Sharif Arrives in Shenzhen From Guangzhou

SHENZHEN: Pakistan Muslim League-N Chief and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrived here Saturday.

Sharif arrived from Guangzhou here in the coastal city that symbolizes the remarkable growth and development that has taken place in southern China in the past thirty years. Shenzhen is considered as China’s most important sector of high tech industry and economic power house. Earlier, in Guangzhou the capital city of Guangdong Province, where the Central Secretary of the CPC and an important member of the Polit-Bureau Mr. Wang Yang warmly welcomed and exchanged views on various matters of common interest with Nawaz Sharif.


The meeting was followed by a banquet which was attended by all the senior party leaders and government officials.


It may be noted that Guangdong is the province from where China has launched Reforms and Opening up thirty years ago which has transformed the face of this country.


The province had maintained a remarkable growth rate even at the time when the rest of the country was facing economic difficulties.


The Guangzhou leadership while welcoming Mr. Nawaz Sharif observed that they consider him as wise and visionary Pakistani leader who had made personal contribution to the consolidation of China-Pakistan relations.





During warm and friendly exchanges, the two sides were able to discuss extensively expanding and enlarging the cooperation between the two countries, especially in the areas of economic and commercial ties.


In this context, Mr. Nawaz Sharif praised the remarkable progress achieved by the Guangdong province which alone was exporting goods worth over 300 billion dollars annually.


“Guangzhou province performance was an inspiration not only to the other areas of China, but also to Pakistan”, observed Nawaz Sharif.


Briefing the Party Secretary on the economic and development plans for the province of Punjab, Nawaz Sharif extended an invitation to Mr. Wang Yang to lead a delegation to Lahore for an exchange on possible areas of cooperation, especially in the sectors of power, energy, infrastructure, agriculture and mass transport.


Mr. Wang Yang expressed his thanks for kind invitation and said that it would be given serious consideration in order to make the visit successful for both sides.


Yang said that he especially valued the opportunity of exchanging views with Nawaz Sharif as he was aware of former Prime Minister role in introducing far reaching economic reforms in Pakistan.


During the day the former Prime Minister and his delegation visited a number of industrial and agricultural enterprises where he was provided a glimpse of development that has taken place in China and the opportunity to discuss cooperation with these organizations.


Earlier in the morning, Nawaz Sharif visited Zhong Shan city, where he was received by the senior leadership of the local Communist Party who also hosted a lunch in his honour and arranged for him to visit various enterprises.
