PM Gilani Rules Out Army Deployment in KarachiPakistan News Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has vowed to stabilize Karachi against all the odds, and warned that none of the terrorists or extremists would be spared. During a press briefing in Karachi on Saturday, the PM said that the Federal Government would fully support the provincial government to root out all the nasty elements from the metropolis and restore peace.

He said that strict action would be taken against those involved in Karachi violence.

Elaborating the code of conduct charted out by Rehman Malik for Karachi peace, the PM said that all the political parties would jointly act to do away with the extremist and terrorist elements and coordinate with the law enforcement agencies in this respect. He thanked ANP chief Asfand Yar Wali Khan and Altaf Hussain, chief of MQM for conceding to his requests to resolve the lingering issues. However, he ruled out need for the deployment of Army in Karachi.

Referring to flood situation, Gilani said that the aftermath of the flood tide passing through Kotri and Sukkur Barrages has been assessed and efforts are on to cope up with the situation. He maintained that the government is well aware of its responsibilities and has launched joint and coordinated relief activities for the flood victims.

He said Army and Navy would be called in where the need arises. He assured complete facilitation to the flood victims and called upon media not to politicize the issue. He urged the affluent to come forward and donate abundantly for the flood hit people.
