Govt To Use All Channels For Dr. Aafia's Repatriation: PM Gilani Pakistan News: PM Gilani on Friday assured the Senate that the government would take up Dr Afia's case on political level with the United States, following her conviction by a US court, sentencing her for 86-year imprisonment.

"We will take up Dr Afia's case with the US administration on political level as was done with Saudi Arabia. We will use all channels for her repatriation," said the Prime Minister addressing the Upper House of Parliament.





He said after the US court gave its verdict on Dr Afia, he talked to the interior minister to look into as if there is any possibility of signing a treaty with the United States so that she may be brought back to Pakistan. "The interior minister will apprise as treaty of what nature can be signed with the US. It should be in national interest so that it may not have any negative repercussions on national security as well as other citizens," said the Prime Minister.

On the other hand, talking to media outside the Parliament Interior Minister Rehman Malik said that a joint resolution would be tabled in the Parliament on the issue of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui. He said, "Talks are under way with other political parties for tabling a joint resolution in the Parliament on the issue of Dr. Siddiqui."

The Minister said all possible channels and options would be utilized to bring back Dr. Afia to Pakistan. "Dr. Afia is a daughter of the nation and the government is utilizing all possible channels and options for her return."

He added the government was also planning to write another letter to the United States for repatriation of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui adding that she should be deported to Pakistan under UN Convention for exchange of prisoners on humanitarian grounds.

To another query he said he had talked to Pakistan's Ambassador in the United States on the issue and asked him to utilize all possible options for her repatriation.
