Hunza Lake to be drained


It has been decided to lower the water level of Hunza lake by draining it; where as President has ordered to initiate a speedy boat service for the victims of Hunza lake.

The meeting held at Aiwan-e-Sadar which was attended by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, COAS Gen. Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Syed Mehdi Shah, Chairman NDMA and other senior officials. According to the Presidential spokesman, it has been decided in the meeting that water level of the lake must be decreased due to control blasting so that rehabilitation and development works can be initiated as soon as possible. It was also decided to make feasibility for a by-pass on Karakoram Highway in order to avoid the land sliding. The Presidential spokesman also told that during the Presidents visit to China, the Chinese government offered its assistance in order to overcome this problem.
